The meeting has been held in Thessaloniki with aim to improve the transparency and accountability of the international financial institutions

NGO Green Home took part in the first meeting of the EuroIFI Network and the International Advocacy Network (IAWG), held from 28 to 31 August 2017, in which it discussed the improvement of transparency and accountability of international financial institutions (IFIs).
The timing of the meeting coincided with the annual meeting (IAMs) by the Independent Responsibility Mechanism (IFC) of the International Financial Institutions, which was a good opportunity for discussion, consultation and exchange of views between representatives of the civil sector and representatives of financial institutions.
The EuroIFI network is an informal network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that focuses on international financial institutions, such as the World Bank, the European Investment Bank and the International Monetary Fund. On the other hand, the IAW (International Advocates Working Group) is a network of non-governmental organizations that shares information, lessons learned, best practices and strategies / mechanisms of accountability in order to avoid or reduce negative impacts of projects from an environmental and social point of view.
The workshop discussed how to build and strengthen the capacity of the EuroIFI network to use the IAM (Independent Acountability Mechanisams) and research their capabilities to improve community objectives, challenge projects of International Financial Institutions and provide legal remedy.
