Round table: Effective campaigns against the unplanned and unsustainable development of small hydropower plants

Podgorica_20th of November 2018._NGO Green Home has organized a round table on: “Effective campaigns against the unplanned and unsustainable development of small hydropower plants”.

 

The objectives of the round table were:

 

• Presenting effective mechanisms against the unplanned and  unsustainable construction of SHPs in Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region;

• Developing a strategic plan for civil society organizations for action against unsustainable development of sHPPs in Montenegro;

 

The event was attended by representatives from the NGO sector from Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, a representative of the media - Monitor, as well as representatives of local communities, who gravitate in the areas where sHPPs are planned. The participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences, but also to hear examples of effective campaigns from the region.

 

During the round table, has been developed a framework plan which contain different activities that will be implemented in cooperation of NGOs and local communities.

 

Activity has been organized within the projects: “ENV.net factoring the environmental portfolio for WB and Turkey in the EU Policy Agenda” which is financed by theEuropean Union and Coordination and development of resistance activities against hydropower projects and for preserving natural rivers in the Balkan region. Phase 2 which is financed by Pro Natura Friends of the Earth Switzerland.
