Regional Meeting and Conference on Air Pollution in the Western Balkans - Skopje

Green Home attended a regional semi-annual meeting on coal combustion and air pollution in the Western Balkans, organized by the CEE Bankwatch Network and the NGO Eco-svest. The meeting was held in Skopje, from 02. - 03. October 2019.

 

The topic of the event was the air pollution issue in the Western Balkans due to the work of old and construction of new coal-fired power plants, the current climate policy at national, regional and European level, as well as the challenges that the Western Balkan countries face when it comes to improving air quality and the process of a just energy transition towards renewable energy.

 

The meeting participants were representatives of the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL), BiH Environment Center, Cekor, Climate Action Network Europe (CAN Europe), ClientEarth, Europe Beyond Coal, as well as representatives of other regional NGOs.

 

The two-day meeting was followed by a conference "Facing Air Pollution in the Western Balkans - Challenges and Opportunities", which featured speakers from the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of North Macedonia, the Ministry of Environment of Serbia and the NGO Eco-svest from the North Macedonia.
