Citizens participation in environmental issues – Ljubljana

Green Home attended an event called "Citizens participation in environmental issues", which took place on October 22nd, 2019. in Ljubljana. The event was organized by the Institute Alternative in cooperation with partners on the You4EU project - Citizen Participation 2.0 - organization Pina from Slovenia and Belgrade Open School - BOS.

 

The event presented the publication named "50 Questions from You for the EU", made up of citizen's questions posted on social networks, as well as responses from institutions and relevant stakeholders in the field of environmental protection, EU accession processes, freedom of media and other.

 

Also, a lecture on "Environmental Challenges, Europe and its Citizens" was held, where participants had the opportunity to hear inspirational stories about citizen’s initiatives, such as the story from Montenegro on the cypresses cutting in Bar, as well as the story on Balkan Rivers Tours group of kayakers from Slovenia and their way of fighting small hydropower on rivers.

 

As a final part of the event, a panel discussion was held on environmental challenges in Europe. The panel discussed air pollution, climate change, poverty and the lack of citizen participation in decision making processes.
