Conserving wild plants and habitats for people in the South and East Mediterranean

Implementation of three-year project “Conserving wild plants and habitats for people in the South and East Mediterranean” started in October 2014. Main aim of this project is to strength the significance of important Plant Areas through many activities and field actions as tool for biodiversity conservation.


In Montenegro was identified 27 IPA sites (Important Plant Areas) and through this project we will work on three of them: Scadar Lake, Vrsuta mountain and Long Beach. Besides NGO Green Home, in realization of the project, three local partner NGOs will participate: Green Step from Ulcinj, “24th November” from Bar and Montenegrin ecologist society from Podgorica.


The main objective of the project: Involvement of civil society in the conservation of important species and habitats.


During 2016. year we will implement the following activities:


- Workshops for children about the importance of these IPA sites from the botanical point of view

- Workshops with locals in order to promote sustainable tourism and importance and values of this area in tourism purpose.

-promotion video materials will be prepared

- Removing invasive species on Long beach and area of Skadar lake

- Field visits with volunteers due to the monitoring and mapping of the important plant species in all three IPAs.

- Two-day educational camp on Long beach.

- Photo trekking tour on Vrsuta with volunteers.


Six countries of East and South Mediterranean are involved in this project.


The project was initiated by the Plantlife organization and IUCN and it is funded by MAVA foundation.
