The “Truth about plastic bags” project aims to increase citizens’ awareness of the harmful effects of plastic bags on the environment and on citizens’ health through an intensive educational campaign, creation of recommendations and training, but also by opening space for discussion on further steps to reduce plastic pollution from plastic bags.
Different types of plastic bags are still in use in Montenegro – from very thin bags up to 15 microns that are used for food packaging, through legally prohibited bags between 15 and 50 microns thick that can still be found on markets and in smaller stores, to bags over 50 microns thick that are formally considered reusable. In addition, a large number of plastic bags are used in pharmacies and specialized stores, which further contributes to plastic pollution.
Through the implementation of the project, an intensive media campaign will be carried out, the aim of which is to raise the level of awareness of citizens about the harmfulness of using plastic bags. The project also aims to contribute to the improvement of public policies in the field of environmental protection.
A special focus will be placed on strengthening the ecological awareness of young generations in order to create long-term habits of responsible behavior towards nature through the development of creative and interactive programs.
The project is financially supported by the Environmental Protection Fund (Eco Fund).
