Eart Hour starts tonight at 20:30

We invite you to turn off the lights in your homes tonight at 8:30 p.m., turn off the devices you don’t need for 60 minutes and in this way make your contribution to the protection of nature.

Earth Hour was launched in Sydney in 2007 as a civic initiative to protest climate change and call for urgent action. Hour for the planet is known for the moment of “turning off the lights”, when individuals from all over the world, on the last Saturday in March, turn off their lights for 60 minutes to show symbolic support for the planet and raise awareness of environmental problems.

We are on track to breach the 1.5°C global temperature increase limit set by the Paris Climate Agreement by 2030, and nature – the source of our livelihoods and one of our greatest allies against the climate crisis – is also under serious threat, facing alarming loss rates at the global level.

This year’s theme is “Uniting for Our One Shared Home”. The theme highlights the importance of taking urgent action to address important environmental issues and secure a sustainable future for our common home. People around the world will turn off the lights for one hour in their homes, cities in their landmarks and be part of the largest volunteer environmental movement in the world.

The NGO Green Home launched this action in Montenegro in 2009. This initiative was very well received at the level of the Capital City of Podgorica, and quickly spread to other cities of our country. The initiative is supported every year by numerous companies and business entities.

This year, the Ministry of Culture and Media, the capital Podgorica, the municipalities: Ulcinj, Rožaje, Tivat, the capital Cetinje, as well as the One Montenegro company, will join Planet Hour this year.

Tonight, in the period from 20:30 to 21:30, the lights will go out all over the world and send a strong message that nature is worth fighting for its preservation, but also draw attention to the problems in the environment in which we live.
