The NGO Green Home, in cooperation with the city company Deponija d.o.o., organized an educational visit to the company for the students of the Elementary School “Vlado Milić”. The visit was organized with the support of teacher Đina Mićović, with the aim of bringing the students closer to the topics of environmental protection, proper waste management and the importance of recycling.
During the tour, which was led by employees from the company, Irena Kovačević and Milica Djurisic, the students had the opportunity to learn about the way the landfill works, the different segments of the plant, the recycling center, plants, as well as the daily tasks of waste management employees.
The aim of the visit was to educate young people about the importance of proper waste disposal, recycling and the impact of waste on the environment. Students were presented with key information about the amount of waste generated in Montenegro, the problem of illegal landfills, and the lack of systematic education about these topics.
This activity is a continuation of a series of educational workshops that were previously held in seven elementary schools, with a focus on the door-to-door waste collection system, plastic pollution, opportunities to improve waste management and ways to reduce overall waste generation through everyday activities. The activities were implemented through the project “Waste Path: Education Mission”, financed by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North.
Education of children and young people is crucial for long-term changes in behavior towards the environment. Through such visits and workshops, we want to encourage the development of awareness and a sense of responsibility among the youngest generations, who will be the bearers of positive changes in the future. We want to motivate and empower the target groups to think about the possibilities of separate waste collection and reducing the pressure on sanitary landfills.
