Market Inspection Training for Better Implementation of the Waste Management Law

Market Inspection Training for Better Implementation of the Waste Management Law

On Friday, March 20, the NGO Green Home organized a training for representatives of the Market Inspection Authority on the topic of implementing the Waste Management Law in the area of controlling the placing of plastic bags on the market.

Market Inspection representatives had the opportunity to hear about the impact of plastic bags on the environment, with a special focus on the problem of single-use plastics and their long-term negative effects on both the environment and the health of ecosystems and people.

A separate segment was dedicated to presenting the analysis conducted by Green Home, which relates to the identification of problems in the implementation of the law in practice.

Namely, plastic bags of different diameters are still in use, and there is a collision between legal solutions that prevents the adequate implementation of the plastic bag ban in Montenegro, as well as the collection of environmental fees according to the “polluter pays” principle. Therefore, we still have a significant use of plastic bags on a daily basis and we do not achieve the desired results in practice.

This event was an excellent opportunity to discuss and analyze the problems and limitations of market inspection in the implementation of the law on waste management, which led to the conclusion that further strengthening of this body is necessary, as well as improving the legal solution in order for its implementation to have practical results.

This event was organized within the framework of the project “The Truth about Plastic Bags”. The project is financially supported by the Environmental Protection Fund (Eco Fund).
