Through this project, we continue and intensify efforts to enhance the protection and management of the Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) Bojana Delta in Montenegro, with a special focus on Velika Plaža (Long Beach) and coastal wetland habitats. The project will document the values and current threats present in this area and contribute to the management plan, while also including a restoration action through waste removal or another activity in coastal wetlands.
The expected results of the project are:
- A strengthened knowledge base and planning inputs for effective protection and management of Velika Plaža;
- Implementation of a restoration activity or a waste clean-up action at Velika Plaža;
- Built capacities of Green Home and other organizations in the field of environmental policy and advocacy, as well as students and representatives of the tourism sector, in the area of the natural heritage of Velika Plaža and coastal wetlands;
- Improved understanding among the public and relevant stakeholders of the biodiversity of Velika Plaža.
By combining scientific analyses, practical field actions, and active involvement of local stakeholders, the project improves the knowledge base for decision-making, reduces pressures on sensitive coastal habitats, raises awareness among the local community and decision-makers, and strengthens institutional mechanisms for the long-term protection of the Bojana Delta. In this way, we contribute to the conservation of biodiversity, ecosystem resilience, and the sustainable use of coastal resources in the Key Biodiversity Area of the Bojana Delta.
The project is supported by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).
