In the valley of Grebaje, in the heart of the Prokletije National Park, the third consecutive five-day ecological camp organized by the NGO Green Home, in partnership with INCA from Albania and ERA from Kosovo, was successfully completed yesterday.
The camp brought together students from Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo, who through lectures, interactive workshops and fieldwork had the opportunity to learn about the exceptional natural values of the Prokleti massif. The goal of this gathering was to strengthen regional cooperation and educate young people about the importance of preserving biodiversity in the cross-border area.
During their stay at the camp, the participants attended lectures by experts on different groups of organisms and species that are characteristic of this area. Special attention was devoted to the Balkan lynx and the challenges faced by this rare and endangered species, as well as the activities carried out for its protection.
The participants had the opportunity to learn about the concept of the Natura 2000 network and the importance of its implementation in the border area between Montenegro and Albania. Great interest was also caused by the presentation on the insects of Prokletije, during which the participants recorded numerous photos of rare and interesting species.
Through field activities, young people explored forest ecosystems, got acquainted with endemic plant and animal species, and for many, staying in tents and hiking to the top of Volušnica, located at 1876 meters above sea level, was a special challenge and a new experience.
The eco camp was realized as part of the project “Prokletije – cross-border science classroom III”, whose goal is to strengthen good neighborly relations and strengthen cooperation through the promotion of regional dialogue, scientific exchange and the involvement of young people in the field of nature protection and environmental sustainability. The project is supported by the EU and the Joint Action Fund for the Western Balkans.
Such camps represent an important step towards the creation of a regional network of young experts and enthusiasts who will together contribute to the preservation of one of the most valuable natural areas.
