NGO Green Home fully supports the activities of Deponija d.o.o. and its director, Aleksandar Božović, in launching the waste tire processing plant, as well as their persistence in addressing challenges in the field of waste management.
Finally, after many years of pursuing various approaches to solving the issue of waste tire management, Montenegro will now be able to properly handle this waste stream and enable the processing of tires and their preparation for further use. In this way, the issue of waste tires in Montenegro will be resolved for the future, as well as the large quantities that have already been stored within the landfill and at other locations, which previously posed a serious risk to public health.
We particularly wish to highlight the role of Ambassador Johan Sattler and the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro in launching and coordinating the “Čuvaj da te čuva” (“Protect so it protects you”) campaign, which has delivered significant results in the field of environmental protection.
It is especially gratifying that the need to resolve the issue of waste tires in Montenegro was raised during the campaign’s consultative meetings precisely by NGO Green Home, which has worked on this issue for many years and consistently insisted on finding a solution.
Therefore, the commissioning of the waste tire processing plant not only solves the problem of waste tires but also demonstrates how work should be carried out. This is a clear example of how joint efforts between national and local institutions, supported by the EU Delegation and the civil sector, can ensure the functionality of the system and provide a concrete solution to problems on the ground.
Solutions are often quite simple, but work, persistence, and determination are essential — all of which have been embodied through the “Čuvaj da te čuva” campaign.
Finally, after celebrating the completion of this process, it is necessary to begin as soon as possible creating the preconditions for recycling and reusing other materials that end up in our landfill, in order to ultimately reduce pressure on it.
