Drin Day 2026 is an initiative aimed at promoting the protection and sustainable management of the Buna/Bojana sub-basin, with a particular focus on Long Beach (Velika plaža) and the surrounding coastal wetlands in Montenegro.
The initiative focuses on raising awareness about the impacts of droughts, the importance of drought risk management, and the need for stronger cooperation between institutions, civil society, local communities and other stakeholders. Through dialogue, knowledge exchange and field activities, the project aims to highlight the ecological importance of the Bojana Delta Key Biodiversity Area and the challenges it faces due to unsustainable development, habitat degradation and other environmental pressures.
The central activity of the project will be the organisation of Drin Day 2026 at Long Beach, including an interactive panel discussion and a guided field visit. The event will bring together representatives from Montenegro and Albania to discuss environmental challenges, share experiences and identify opportunities for joint action towards the long-term protection of the Drim Basin.
Project partners:
NGO Green Home (Montenegro)
Institute for Nature Conservation in Albania – INCA (Albania)
The event is organized as part of the regional Drin Day 2026 initiative, with the support of the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med).
