The Strengthening Transparency and Environmental Protection in the Šasko Lake Area project is focused on monitoring and analysing a planned investment in the Šasko Lake area. Through independent research, the engagement of the local community, and capacity building for the media and civil society organizations, the project aims to support evidence-based decision-making and protect the public interest.
The expected results of the project are:
Development of a comprehensive case study providing a reliable basis for understanding the potential impacts of the planned investment on the Šasko Lake area;
Strengthened capacities of journalists and civil society organizations to monitor environmental issues, access information, and analyse planning documentation;
Increased participation of the local community in decision-making processes through a consultative workshop and the collection of residents’ views and recommendations;
Improved public awareness of environmental protection and transparency issues.
By combining research, field monitoring, capacity building for key stakeholders, and the active involvement of the local community, the project contributes to greater transparency in planning processes, improved protection of the natural values of Šasko Lake, and stronger public oversight of decisions that may have significant environmental impacts.
The project is supported by the Balkan Trust for Democracy (BTD).
