An international three-day workshop was held as part of the MediterRe3 project, in Chania (Greece)

We organized the workshop as part of the MediterRE3 project, whose goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by forest fires by moving from suppression to prevention and promotion of fire-resistant landscapes.

The workshop was held in the period from 01.31 – 02.02 and it was attended by representatives of the National Parks of Montenegro, director Vladimir Martinović and head of the Service for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development, Dr. Aleksandar Mijović, as well as the director of the Agency for Protected Areas of Podgorica, Drago Đeković, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management , Ranko Kankaras.

The project activities will create guidelines for the recovery of forest landscapes through smart planning against fires in the Mediterranean, which will guide the competent authorities on methods of reducing the risk of forest fires through integrated management of forest landscapes.

This project is implemented in cooperation with Oikos Institute from Italy, Luberon Natural Regional Park from France, CIHEAM-MAICh Organization from Greece, National Observatory of Athens/Institute for Ecological Research and Sustainable Development (NOA) from Greece. The project is financially supported by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI).
