Green Home talked to citizens about heating in households

The household sector is one of the most important consumers of energy in Montenegro. In Podgorica, wood is used for heating in households, primarily firewood and electricity, while the consumption of coal
and oil derivatives is at the level of 2%. Individual wood heating in households is also a significant air polluter in the capital city.

In this regard, in the previous two months we held a series of workshops with citizens on heating in households entitled “How do the citizens of Podgorica heat their households?”.

The aim of the workshops was to talk with citizens about energy-efficient and environmentally friendly heating systems, about how to make their home more energy-efficient, but also about the
obstacles encountered on the way, which include the price of energy sources, difficulties with existing installations, and lack of credit support for such activities.

Workshops were held in local communities: Nova Varoš, Jedinstvo, Tološi II, Donja Gorica and Zabjelo, and a large number of citizens expressed interest in the installation of heat pumps, with the biggest
problem being the price.

We also drew attention to the consequences of excessive air pollution in Montenegro. Combustion of coal and biomass in household stoves causes air pollution and greenhouse gases.

The mentioned activities are part of the project “Reduction of air pollution and mitigation of climate change”, supported by ECF (European Climate Foundation).
