Monitoring of the species Pinna nobilis in Platamuni and Katič Nature parks

NGO Green Home, with the support of the Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management, has started implementing the monitoring of the Pinna nobilis species in the marine protected areas nature parks Platamuni and Katič.

Pinna nobilis is listed on the IUCN Red List as a critically endangered species, and in Montenegro, it is protected by the Nature Protection Act.
It is also protected under the Natura 2000 network, which is part of European legislation.

This species is crucial for the health of marine ecosystems as it filters large amounts of water, thereby contributing to water quality and reducing pollution. It also creates habitats for many other organisms, including algae, fish, crabs, and other shellfish.

The goal of this project is to monitor locations within the Platamuni Nature Park and Katič Nature Park where the presence of the Pinna nobilis species has been recorded in the past, as well as other potential locations suitable for the development of these species, to collect data on the presence of this species over a five-year period.

The monitoring of the Pinna nobilis species will be carried out for five years.

Funding for these activities has been provided by the Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management through the MedFund association.
