Following the completion of the Green Ideas competition, we are pleased to announce the participants selected to represent Montenegro at the regional competition, which will take place in Prizren, Kosovo, from 2 to 5 November.
Solitary Bee Motel – Filip Matanović, Master of Ecology, presents Solitary Bee Motel, a series of handcrafted modular nesting houses for solitary bees and wasps, made from locally sourced wood. Unlike conventional insect hotels, these units feature drawers that can be opened, allowing nests to be observed, species identified, and the units cleaned and reused for years to come. Montenegro does not yet have an inventory of wild bee species, making each installed unit a small scientific monitoring station. The first twenty units are intended for schools, protected areas, and the Biotechnical Faculty, accompanied by an illustrated bilingual guide and workshops.
The kuckakorita.me platform – The recently established NGO “Kučka Korita” has introduced a platform designed to provide visitors and local hosts with something that is currently missing: a reliable, centralised source of information about what the area has to offer. The kuckakorita.me platform will be bilingual and will feature a map of marked trails, springs, and viewpoints, as well as a directory of local households, accommodation providers, and guides. Every local service provider will be able to register free of charge. The digital platform will be complemented by on-the-ground activities, including environmental clean-up campaigns, information boards with QR codes, and pilot tours. The goal is to ensure that more tourism revenue stays within the community while reducing waste in the mountains.
SPILA Grove – Ivan Đukić is developing SPILA Grove, a regenerative olive-growing project on a family-owned estate overlooking the Bay of Kotor. The property covers approximately 20,000 m² and is home to around 260 olive trees, some of which are several hundred years old. Instead of intensive construction and production, the project promotes an alternative approach focused on restoring traditional dry-stone walls, composting, herbicide-free cultivation, and responsible water use. The first product will be SPILA Oil, a limited-production olive oil, followed over time by small-scale cultural and educational programmes designed to transform the estate into a meeting place for local producers, craftspeople, and artists.
Congratulations to the selected participants, and we wish them every success at the regional competition in Prizren!
