The opening of the photo exhibition “Forests of Prokletije and Komovi”

Last night, in the presence of numerous nature lovers, the exhibition “Forests of Prokletije and Komovi” , prepared by the NGO Green Home, was opened in Petrović Castle.
The exhibition aims to show the beauty of the Prokletije National Park and the Komovi Nature Park, but also to draw attention to the importance of preserving natural resources within these two protected areas.
The themes of the exhibition are the forests of Prokletije and Komovi, for the reason that they are forests that have great value, but in which illegal logging, illegal opening of forest roads, illegal construction and economic logging in the Komovi nature park take place. All this threatens to jeopardize these natural values.
The photos shown at the exhibition were collected through award contest that was held in May, and through which more than 450 photos were sent to the address of Green Home.
“Although we wanted to show the beauty of the area through the photos, but also the problems that characterize them, such as fires, felling of trees, erosion, waste disposal and other activities that lead to negative effects on the environment, all the received photos pointed only to the beauty of this area . And that’s a message – and a very strong one. Nature, biodiversity and all the values that characterize them should be preserved in these areas because that is what the citizens want to see.” the director of NGO Green Home, Azra Vuković, pointed out at the opening.
The authors of the photos that were selected as the most beautiful were awarded with a voucher that they can use for a tour through the Nevidio canyon, rafting or rafting in Tara, of their choice. These activities were selected with the aim of additionally promoting the potential that Montenegro has in its protected areas.
Awarded authors are: Radonja Srdanović, Semir Kadrović and Nedžad Mehović.
During last night’s opening of the exhibition, two video materials were presented that emphasize the values of Prokletije and Komovi, but also emphasize the need to preserve them.
The exhibition was realized within the framework of the project Strong civil society for the preserved forests of Prokletije and Komovi, which is implemented by the NGO Green Home and is supported through the program “CSOs in Montenegro – from basic services to policy formulation – M’BASE” implemented by the Center for Civic Education (CGO), Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), Center for Protection and Study of Birds of Montenegro (CZIP) and Politikon network. The project is financed by the European Union and co-financed by the Ministry of Public Administration.
The exhibition will be open until July 13, 2023.
