On Monday, July 11, 2022, NGO Green Home organized a round table on the topic:
“POPs chemicals – a global problem”. The round table was attended by representatives
Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, Center for Ecotoxicology
examinations, Environmental Protection Agency, Cleanliness, Ecological Inspection, as well as NGOs
sector.

The round table discussed POPs chemicals (persistent pollutants),
their impact on human health and the environment, the POPs pollution control system
chemicals, as well as the challenges in this sphere, with special reference to the groups that are most exposed
to this danger, such as farmers, collectors of secondary raw materials, as well as the service
protection and rescue.

POPs chemicals are mostly present in pesticides, electrical and electronic waste,
flame retardants, synthetic rubber and smoke when ignited. These substances are transferred
wind and water, most of these substances created in one place can affect people and
environment far from their place of origin. They survive in nature for a long time and
they are passed from one species to another through the food chain. In that regard, it is on the round table stated that this problem should be in focus in the future, as well as vulnerable groups
which are most exposed to danger should be informed and trained in order to properly handle i
protect yourself from POPs.

The event was realized within the project “Get to know harmful chemicals!”, which is financed
supported by the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism.
