WE DEMAND ANSWERS FROM AUTHORITIES: WHY IS THE PINE FOREST BEING DESTROYED? AUTHORITIES SHOULD INITIATE PROCEEDINGS TO DETERMINE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OPENING A ROAD THROUGH THE PINE FOREST IN ULCINJ

We call on the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, the Municipality of Ulcinj, Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management (Morsko dobro), and Administration for Inspection Affairs to, in accordance with their competencies, determine responsibility for the devastation of the pine forest in Ulcinj. Although the issue of illegal activities in forests has reached a boiling point and is practically discussed in the media every day, we have a situation just a few dozen meters from the Ulcinj shore, as witnessed by photographs. In a time when there is constant talk about the need to preserve every tree and plant new ones, we are witnessing the brutal cutting down of the pine forest to open a road.
The way the road was opened in the part of the city behind the Hotel Albatros in the pine forest in Ulcinj is unacceptable.
In addition to the fact that numerous trees were torn down and felled directly in this project, many surrounding trees were broken and damaged. For years, there have been discussions about the deterioration of the forest in that area, and not only is there no solution to revitalize the forest, but perfectly healthy trees are being destroyed by the heavy machinery of irresponsible investors and contractors, with a complete lack of response from the relevant authorities.
It is paradoxical that plots in this area are sold under the brand name “Pine Forest,” and shortly thereafter, the pine forest itself becomes a victim of its own attractiveness. We remind the public that the pine forest in Ulcinj, besides having an ecological function in preserving biological and landscape diversity, also plays a role in protecting the soil from erosion and mitigating microclimatic conditions. The black pine and cypress forest planted in the 1950s and 1960s is an exceptional value for this area.
