Assessment of the state of the European eel population in the Bojana River

The main goal of the project is to improve the state of the European eel population in the Bojana River.

The project has the specific objectives of involving the local community in the protection of eels; contribution to scientific research data on eels in Montenegro and the reduction of pressures that directly threaten and affect the reduction of eel population; improving inter-institutional cooperation and coordination for eel protection in the Bojana River Basin.

It consists of four thematic units:

  • Raising awareness of the importance of eel protection and involving the local community;
  • Research;
  • Mapping pressures that directly or indirectly affect eel stock;
  • Improving institutional cooperation.

The project  is financially supported by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund – CEPF.
