The project “Smart stoves partnership – A Regional knowledge Platform to replace inefficient stoves in the Western Balkans” aims to inform decision makers in the Western Balkans about the challenges of replacing obsolete, inefficient and polluting heating stoves.
The regional knowledge platform will cover the technical, financial, health and communication aspects of future replacement schemes for inefficient heating stoves in each of the six contracting parties of the Energy Community.
Background:
At least 3 million households in the Western Balkan use outdated solid fuel heating devices (wood and coal) for heating and cooking needs. Inefficient household appliances and poor energy performance of buildings are the cause of poor air quality, insufficient living comfort, global warming, and finally energy poverty as a special social category.
The implementation of schemes to replace these devices would contribute to improving the living conditions of citizens, preserving the environment and reducing energy poverty throughout the region, and ultimately would be the first step towards energy transition and achieving climate and energy goals in Europe.
